Top Attraction 2: Louvre Museum
Louvre Museum is a must see. It is the largest museum in the world, spanning over 650,000 feet. This is where you will find the most famous paintings and artifacts from around the world.
The Louvre itself is an artifact worth seeing. Originally built in 1190 as a fortress. Later, royals expanded its square footage. Eventually, it was converted into art academies. It became a museum in the late 1700s.
Top Attraction 3: Basilique Du Sacré Coeur
The Basilique Du Sacre Coeur sits atop Montmartre, the Mount of Martyrs. Montmartre has been a place of worship since the time of the Ancient Druids.
It is free to visit inside the Basilica. They are open everyday from 6 A.M. to 10:30 P.M. Tuesdays through Sundays; the bookstore is open. You will be able to purchase a guide to the Basilica in the bookstore.
Dome access does require the purchase of a ticket, after which you will climb 300 stairs. The views from the dome are exquisite.
It is asked that you refrain from taking pictures within the Basilica as it is a place of worship. However, it is okay to take photographs and videos outside.
The Experience Flying into Paris
Approaching Paris, the city sprawls beneath you in awe inspiring geometric patterns. As the plane descends, the larger attractions become visible:
- The Eiffel Tower
- Louvre
- Arc de Triomphe
If flying in at night, the city will be aglow, romantically expressing why Paris is also known as the City of Lights.
There are two Airports in Paris:
Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is also known as Roissy. It is to the north of Paris. CDG is the second largest airport in Europe, and it is a bustling place.
As an international visitor, your plane will be landing at terminal 2E. Easy Dog has maps for each terminal. Because the airport is so large and there are multiple levels, you will want to study the airport maps before landing to help you move through as effortlessly as possible. If possible, print your maps and keep them with you.
Flying into the Orly Airport will bring you to the South of Paris. This airport is smaller with only 2 terminals. It is often less crowded than CDG, which can make navigating the airport simpler. Here is a map of Orly Airport with links to other maps.
From either of the airports, you will navigate your way to your chosen Arrondissement and your lodging. You can do this by:
- Renting a vehicle
- Using the metro
- Calling a cab
The metro is the most popular and the least expensive of the options. You can obtain links to maps and fares, and more here.
